Grammy bound: Sean Ardoin first in a long family of musicians to receive nomination

Sean Ardoin's personality fills a room. He's confident and focused. But the Grammy nomination caught him by surprise.
The news brought him to tears.

On the morning of December 7, Ardoin posted a video of his reaction to the two nominations- one for Best American Roots Performance for "Kick Rocks".
The video was recorded downtown at Jefferson Street Pub.
His second nomination is for Best Regional Roots Music for his album Kreole Rock and Soul.

"I created a new genre called Kreole Rock and Soul... it's a mixture of Zydeco, rock, reggae, funk, hip hop, country, R&B and gospel. That's what zydeco is, that's what we do now... because at the end of the day, when you think about it, Clifton Chenier was just playing music. They started calling it Zydeco because of Zydeco Est Pas Sale. And what my grandfather and them played was called La La music."

The Lake Charles native comes by his musical talent honestly-from Amédé Ardoin and his grandfather Alphonse "Bois Sec" Ardoin and his father "Black". But he is the first in his family to receive a Grammy nomination.

"It's come full circle," Ardoin said. He's quick to point out that success had been a long road that requires effort and perseverance. And that's what he's done for the last 30 years.
