Members Only?

Thankfully I’m not talking about that dated piece of outerwear. Nor am I talking about how WCVE is a “Members Only” club. But on this week’s World Music Show (9/22) I am talking about you. If you enjoy local programs such as this one or the others such as Time for the Blues, The Sound of Swing or Breakfast Classics, then you should become a member.

Or if you enjoy our national shows on both WCVE Music and WCVE News, then becoming a member should be on your “to-do” list. Click that button up above that says “Donate Now” to join the fun. We rely on your support to bring you local and national shows as well as in-depth reporting.

Hector Coco BarezNow, on with this show. I’m going to be Mr. Digital by just telling you quickly what to expect on Saturday’s show.

We’ll support the local with tracks from Afro Zen Allstars, Bio Ritmo and Hector Coco Barez. Then we’ll support the world by hearing new music from Black Uhuru (who do a cover of a song by The Clash), Sean Ardoin, The Temple Rockers, the Brazilian band Fantomaticos and Yusef Islam (aka Cat Stevens!).

Yusuf IslamPlus, I’m throwing in some of my favorite World Music covers by Nouvelle Vague, Los Crema Paraiso (who get the nod with two covers--one of Depeche Mode, the other of Tears for Fears), and Fun Boy 3 who do a cover of a Go-Go’s song.

If that weren’t enough to make you become a “Member” then perhaps songs by Ladama, Lara Klaus, Meklit, Monica da Silva or Zee Avi will. These are all great female musicians who I like to highlight regularly on the show.
